  • As the Moon begins a new cycle here in the sign of Aquarius, we are given the opportunity to innovate our life in new ways that will support a better version of ourselves. Aquarius holds the energy of the future, one which has burned down the systems and structures that have disempowered us from being fully free.

As the Moon represents our subconscious and internal self, and a New Moon represents new beginnings, here we can set personal intentions for the new self we’d like to grow into, one which is uninhibited, liberated and free, as we see through the things which have held us back, and commit to the changes we want to see for the future.

Aquarius reminds us to explore closely, the realms of the air element, when visualizing the empowerment of self we are moving towards. The Air element rules the mind as well as technology. What thought patterns are self-destructive which we must release, in order to achieve the freedom we seek? How are we influenced by technology and what impact does this have on our own self worth? Explore these topics, and know that this New Moon is in support of your future and the embodiment of a free and true you. Break the chains which bind you, and allow yourself to embrace the liberation that awaits on the other side.

Scents for Aquarius

Colors and Fabrics for Aquarius

Known as The Waterbearer, Aquarius is aligned with purples and blues of any shade.

As for textiles, why not bring out the humble blue jean? Perhaps the most egalitarian of textiles, the material originated in France and Italy, and had been used for work clothes since the 17th century. However, the popularity of jeans as American icons began in the mid-1800s when Levi Strauss and Jacob Davis began selling blue jeans as working clothes for miners, farmers, cattle and factory workers. By the mid 20th century they became an icon of youth rebellion. They continue to persist, globally loved, available across income levels, and still unique within various subcultures. Jeans and blue jean material are the perfect match to this moon’s energy.

Gemstones for Aquarius

Emerald, Lapis and Carnelian are in the pocket for this New Moon. These will help us align to our heart center, dream of new worlds and expand our creativity. Let us know how they work for you!

Ritual: Nurturing your Friendships

Since this week is all about community and relationships, we’re focusing primarily on friendships for our ritual. This could mean starting new friendships (new moon beginnings), maintaining existing friendships, or leaving room for friendships to change. We should all remember that friendships can be just as affirming, supportive, and complex as romantic or familial relationships, and rituals can enhance all of these support systems.
Friend Goals: Friendship rituals are so important because friendships are central to living happy lives. It doesn’t really matter how many friends you have, but the quality of those friendships and how you maintain them.

One activity for this new moon is to establish a new time to meet with your friends that is a set date/time and is repetitive. You can meet once a week, once a month, or whenever suits you but the key is to make it a priority for everyone involved. You can choose an activity to “gather” around like making food together, playing games, discussing books, etc. This may be restricted depending on if you can safely do in person meetings or if they need to be virtual.

Remember this should be fun, not stressful or annoying, so if everyone isn’t in on the theme, toss it out.

Friendship Spell Jars:
For a magical ritual, try making spell jars with a friend. You can do this together (in person or virtually) or separate. Each of you makes a jar symbolizing the friendship and/or yourself, which you then trade. This way each of you has something that reminds you of your friend and/or friendship. The jar can be as small or large as you want and it’s completely up to you what to put in it, just do this with intention.

Some options:
petals from friendship flowers: sunflowers, yellow roses, chrysanthemums, etc.
herbs for friendship: e.g. rosemary or lavender, salt for protection, especially pink salt for friendship
stones/crystals (see above)
fruit peels
anything else that represents you or the friendship (fabric scraps, ticket stubs, pictures, etc.)

Then add pieces of paper with phrases or sentences that speak to what you love about the friendship, or your goals for maintaining/strengthening it.

Once you’re happy, seal the jar and hand it to or drop it off/mail it to your friend!

Now you both have something to keep with you and look at when you want to reaffirm or celebrate your friendship.
